Egypt

Welcome to the Red Sea

Egypt's Red Sea coast is one of the most established dive destinations in the world — and for good reason. Warm water year-round (21–30°C), visibility routinely exceeding 30 meters, and an extraordinary concentration of marine life from reef fish to pelagic sharks make it the standard against which many tropical destinations are measured.

The northern Red Sea — Sharm el-Sheikh, Dahab, the Straits of Tiran — offers wall diving, blue holes, and easy access from Europe. The southern Red Sea — Hurghada, Marsa Alam, the Brothers and Daedalus — delivers remote offshore reefs, hammerhead schools, and the critically endangered oceanic whitetip shark.

Between them lies the most famous wreck dive in the world: the SS Thistlegorm, a WWII British freighter sunk in 1941 and discovered by Cousteau in 1955. Today it remains the Red Sea's most dived site.

Egypt's dive infrastructure is mature: hundreds of PADI and SSI centers, daily liveaboard departures, and airports at Sharm, Hurghada, and Marsa Alam with direct flights from major European cities. The country invented the modern liveaboard dive safari and remains the most affordable warm-water diving destination accessible from Europe.
