Vietnam
Emerging Southeast Asian Diving
Vietnam's diving is still relatively undiscovered compared to Indonesia, Thailand, or the Philippines — and that's part of its appeal. The best diving is around Nha Trang (central coast), Phu Quoc Island (Gulf of Thailand), and the Con Dao archipelago, a protected marine park accessible only by liveaboard or small ferry.
Con Dao is the standout. The archipelago's remoteness and strict protection have preserved healthy coral, sea turtles, dugongs, and occasional whale sharks. Visibility is typically 15-25 meters; water temperatures warm (26-30°C). Best diving is March to October.
Nha Trang offers accessible diving with dozens of sites, though coral health varies due to years of uncontrolled tourism. The marine protected area around Hon Mun remains the best site and is regularly dived by SSI and PADI centers.
