Spain
Atlantic and Mediterranean: Spain's Diving Duality
Spain offers two entirely different diving experiences. Along the Mediterranean — Costa Brava, Balearic Islands, and the Medas Islands marine reserve near Girona — divers find Mediterranean classics: grouper, octopus, moray, and excellent visibility in summer months.
On the Atlantic side, the Canary Islands (especially Lanzarote, La Palma, and El Hierro) offer year-round warm water (18-24°C), volcanic underwater topography, and pelagic encounters — including angel sharks, manta rays, and whale sharks. El Hierro's Mar de las Calmas is an underwater volcanic landscape unlike anywhere else in European diving.
With mature dive infrastructure, English spoken in all major centers, and easy air access, Spain serves both casual Mediterranean divers and more serious Atlantic technical diving.
