Malta
A Mediterranean Wreck Mecca
Malta punches far above its weight as a diving destination. The tiny Mediterranean archipelago — Malta, Gozo, and Comino — has over 70 charted dive sites including more than 20 wrecks, many deliberately scuttled for divers. Water visibility routinely hits 40+ meters, and the limestone coastline has carved out some of the most dramatic caves and swim-throughs in the Mediterranean.
Gozo's Blue Hole is the signature site: a 10-meter-wide vertical shaft through the rock opening to the sea at 8 meters, where divers emerge to a 50+ meter wall dropping into blue water. The nearby Inland Sea, Dwejra, and former Azure Window site complete the island's most photogenic dives.
Malta's wrecks include the HMS Maori, Um El Faroud, Imperial Eagle, and several WWII aircraft. Visibility, warm water (14-26°C), and English as an official language make Malta ideal for wreck training and technical progression.
