Croatia
Adriatic Clarity
Croatia's Adriatic coastline offers some of the clearest water in the Mediterranean, combined with dramatic geology and a growing collection of wrecks. The country has over 1,000 islands, many with dive sites along their sheltered or exposed sides.
Summer water temperatures reach 25°C, dropping to around 14°C in winter. Visibility typically runs 20-30 meters. The diving is focused around the Dalmatian coast — Hvar, Vis, Mljet, and the Kornati archipelago — plus Istria in the north.
The star wrecks include the Baron Gautsch (1914), the Vis aircraft wrecks, and several Italian WWI and WWII sites. Cave diving is also a major draw, particularly in the Kornati National Park. Croatian dive infrastructure is well-developed, with regulated guided diving in marine parks.
