Caribbean Netherlands

Bonaire is a shore-diving country. The entire coastline is inside Bonaire National Marine Park, dive sites are marked with painted yellow rocks, and most visitors rent a pickup truck, load it with tanks, and dive whenever they feel like it — no boats, no schedules.

The reef wraps the entire west coast of the island and parts of the smaller uninhabited Klein Bonaire just offshore. It's mostly sloping hard-coral reefs dropping from 5 meters to 30, with a second drop-off to deep water further out. Visibility is reliably 20–30 meters and the water stays 27–28°C year-round.

The dive sites are famously accessible — 1000 Steps (which has exactly 67 steps but feels like more carrying tanks), Salt Pier, Hilma Hooker (a purposefully-sunk freighter at 30 meters), and dozens more — but the real appeal is the density. You can do 4–5 shore dives a day without a boat.

Bonaire is part of the Caribbean Netherlands (Dutch territory), which means the infrastructure is first-world and English is widely spoken. Arubu Airport (BON) has direct flights from major US hubs via Aruba and Curaçao.
