Overview
Anthony's Key Resort is a long-established dive resort on Roatán's north shore, in Honduras — founded by Paul Adams in the mid-to-late 1960s as an 18-unit property, it has grown into a 4-star, mid-tier resort with 56 or more bungalows, suites, and lofts today. It stands out among Caribbean resorts for one unusual feature: a dedicated dolphin research facility on-site.
The Diving
Entry is from a sandy-bottom bay, which makes for calm, easy water access for shore diving — a practical detail for guests easing into their dive week or doing repeated short sessions. The resort's own dive fleet runs 13 boats (four 48-foot and seven 42-foot dive boats, plus a 51-foot snorkel boat) out to the island's signature wall sites, including Mary's Place, a well-known Roatán site cut through by a series of canyons and swim-throughs, plus Canyon Reef and the El Aguila wreck. Roatán sits on the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second-largest barrier reef system in the world, which underpins the wall diving quality across the island generally. The dive center is a PADI 5-Star Instructor Development facility with its own Career Development Center for guests pursuing instructor certification.
The Resort
All-inclusive meal and dive packages simplify trip budgeting, transfers take about 15 minutes from Juan Manuel Gálvez airport and are included, and the on-site dolphin program — run by the independent Roatan Institute for Marine Sciences at Bailey's Key — is a genuine working research facility, not a marketing add-on. One deliberate choice: rooms have no wifi, part of an explicit "tech-free" resort policy.
Who It's For
Divers who want calm, easy house-bay entry combined with access to serious wall sites and a large in-house boat fleet, and who are drawn to the dolphin research angle, will find this resort distinctive within the Roatán dive scene. The no-wifi policy is worth knowing in advance — this isn't the resort for guests who need to stay connected during a dive trip.
